Welcome to Holy Trinity Church Southchurch. We are one of
15 parishes which make up the
Deanery of Southend within the Diocese of Chelmsford.
Holy Trinity has been here for centuries. The old part of our church dates back
to around
the 12th century. The "new" part dates from the early 20th century. Our
congregation is very
much 21st century! So we try to offer a range of worship that expresses the best
of
the old and of the new, in the service of the God who is always our
contemporary.
On Sundays we use the Book of Common Prayer for our 8.00 am said Holy Communion
service
and for Evensong at 6.30 pm, which is led by the choir and fully sung usually
once a month.
You often hear it said that you can't find churches that
use the Prayer Book anymore. We are one that does !
Our 9.30 am Sunday Family Eucharist service uses the recent Common Worship form,
and is
designed to be a welcoming service for all ages. Our tradition here is, you might
say, central Anglican.
Vestments are worn, we reserve the Blessed Sacrament, we
have a long-standing musical tradition and a large mixed choir.
On Sunday evenings we vary the service a little during the month. On first
Sundays we have
"Question Time" when I try (not always that successfully !) to deal with
questions from other
church members. On the third Sunday we have a short Evensong followed by "That
Thing about
Prayer": an exploration of some aspect of prayer, while the fourth Sunday is
usually a Choral
Evensong.
We have a weekly parish Prayer Time (on Thursdays at 4.00 pm) and a monthly
Julian Meeting for contemplative silent prayer, on the first Sunday each month
at 11.15 am.
BAPTISMS I am always happy to speak to individuals or parents about Baptism,
which we
offer to all those who live in our parish. From time to time we have Baptisms
from outside the parish,
but only with the agreement of your local parish priest.
WEDDINGS We are very happy to conduct weddings at Holy Trinity. You don't have
to be
"regular churchgoers" to marry here, as the Church of England has always valued
her ministry
to all who live in the parish, provided that they fulfil the legal requirements.
If people have been divorced from a partner still living, we would very much
want to talk to
you about a service of Blessing of your civil marriage, but we would not feel
able to use the
actual marriage service as it stands at present.
Please do not hesitate to be in touch with me (my phone number is elsewhere on
this site) if there is any way in which you feel Holy Trinity Church could be of
help to you.

On the following pages we hope that we present a comprehensive picture of the
church
and its life within the community.
