Building Pictures

This is what the New Church looked like before the work

started.  The ceilings were dark and dusty but people did

not notice the dust as the ceilings were not lit.

The old church had many of the faults of the New Church

but Sir Ninian Comper did not have any designs to change

the look of this part of the church building.  However it

was decided to apply much of the work done on the New

Church to the Old Church.

When the refurbished New Church was "unveiled" there

were many surprises for the congregation to admire.  The

Chancel ceiling was now blue with gold stars and the Nave

ceiling was red and the cross beams in the nave were a

much lighter shade of brown.  Pictures of the new ceilings

are below.  Both were now lit so that the congregation got

the benefits of the new lighting system

The Old Church looked much the same but the ceiling had

been cleaned and , like the New Church, benefitted from

the new lighting.

The ceiling of the New Church Chancel looks beautiful with

the golden stars which were sponsored by members of the

congregation. A large picture has been put on one of the

boards at the back of the church.  The stars are numbered

and alongside is a list of the sponsors with the number of

 the star each has sponsored

The Nave of the New church has a ceiling very different

from the old version.  The lighter woodwork and the new

colour of the ceiling catch the eye of every visitor.
